How To Move a Page (aka Re-Parenting)

Thanks to our good friends at the JotSpot Developer Connection for this gem which we repost here.

The recent release not only brought us page renaming, but also page moving. This is a common request and a frequent need, but to date has been difficult to do.

To rename a page, simply click on the large page name displayed in the top left corner of the page. To move that same page, start by renaming the page by providing the full path name to the new location, then rename it back to the original name.

So for example if I created a page called AcmeCallReview under /WikiHome/ProjectOne, but later wanted it to be under /WikiHome/ProjectTwo, I would:

  1. Move it to a new location with a new name. In this example, you would literally type in the little editable field that appears on the page title "/WikiHome/ProjectTwo/AcmeCallReview2". Note we added a 2 to the end of "AcmeCallReview2".
  2. Once re-parented, rename it back to "AcmeCallReview".

We obviously need to create a simple/intiutive user interface for page moving, but for now it's nice to know it's possible!

This isn't working for me either. In fact, the 'save' button becomes disabled as soon as any forward slashes are entered.

I like JotSpot for the most part, but the ability to organize pages and then more easily navigate the hierarchy you create has got to improve significantly.

Navigation would also be improved if tags could be used on any page.

Reparenting is apparently broken.

Ditto. Can't reparent To Do Lists either.
