Create page links using WYSIWYG editor

Topic: connect the pages of your wiki together.

How To Do It:

1. Create a Wiki word while you are editing a document.

When you save this page, JotSpot will automatically generate a link ("IsCapitalized" above). You're done!

2. You can also use the Wiki word 'toggle' tool (on-off) in the WYSIWYG editor. First, drag-select with your mouse the word or phrase that you want to link to another page:

Now, click Toggle WikiWord in the editor's toolbar.

When you save the page, the link will go to an existing wiki page if the title you entered matches another page already saved. Here, we have created a placeholder link to a page not yet saved elsewhere, so it is displayed in red with a question mark:

3. As an alternative, use the WYSIWYG editor's Link tool to link two pages together. First, drag-select with the mouse the word or phrase that you want to link to another page:

Now, click Insert Web Link in the editor's toolbar.

Apply any attributes you want to use to define the link. Here, we specify a 'tooltip' that will display when the user's mouse is dragged over the link. We have also decided to open the target page in a new window:

Note: You can link any JotSpot page to a page on the Web - instead of elsewhere on the wiki - by entering the Web page's URL into the Insert/Modify Link dialog.

Tell Me More:

The basic concept of a link within the wiki stems from the usefulness of wiki words (that is, page titles). Whenever you enter a Wiki word, you have essentially instructed JotSpot to create a link between the current page and the page that has the Wiki word as its title.

By contrast, a Web-aware link does not rely on the titles of Web pages but on their uniquely locatable address - its URL (uniform resource locator). Since each JotSpot page is also assigned a URL, you may manage wiki page links by using WikiWords or as 'just another kind' of linkable Web page' (by entering their full URL into the link field).

While each JotSpot page has an URL, requests coming from the Web to your wiki are checked 'at the door' to see whether they have the right to join the party. This is why the wiki requests a log-in before displaying a wiki page in your browser. If a wiki page has been made available to 'guests', anyone on the Web who wants to view your page will be allowed to do so. This is a feature, not a bug or problem!
