Question: Is there a way for guest users to create their own accounts, becoming named users?

Answer:

Yes, it is possible for guest users (no user name / password; no login required) to create their own accounts becoming named users.

The easiest way is to make your JotSpot account Guest Accessible.

  1. Login as "admin".
  2. From the "More actions..." pulldown menu, select "Page permissions".
  3. Here you will see a red box that reads, "If you want to make your entire JotSpot wiki guest accessible, go here."  Click the link.
  4. To allow guests the ability to create new user accounts, you need to give them permission to read, write and create new pages.  Change these settings to "Guest Users."  While not a requirement, you probably want to allow Guest Users the ability to edit pages.

If you don't want to make your entire JotSpot account Guest Accessible, you can use the Page permission feature to give "guest" permission to read, edit and create new pages for the following pages:

  • WikiHome
  • _Admin
  • ToolBar

Tags: named user, guest access (optional - helps categorize the article, e.g. 'wysiwyg' or 'search' or 'email')
